Dubai has unveiled plans for an impressive 35 billion USD construction project to build the world’s largest airport terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. Upon completion, this terminal is projected to accommodate a staggering 260 million passengers annually, dwarfing the current capacity of Dubai International Airport. Thus, all operations at Dubai International Airport will be gradually transferred to the new facilities of Al Maktoum International Airport.
This ambitious project signifies more than just an expansion of infrastructure; it marks the inception of a new city hub within Dubai South, anticipated to house approximately a million residents and attract top-tier logistics and air transport enterprises. It will position Dubai as a paramount global centre for aviation, commerce, and urban living.
Al Maktoum International Airport, inaugurated in 2010, is poised to become the primary transport hub for Emirates and will boast five parallel runways and an impressive array of 400 aircraft gates. Dubai Airports CEO, Paul Griffiths, heralded the project as a pivotal milestone that will fortify Dubai’s status as a premier aviation hub, aligning with the city’s remarkable growth trajectory.
