The UAE has introduced new laws with heightened penalties for unlicensed health professionals and facilities. The legislation includes private healthcare facility regulations and also regulations pertaining to veterinary medicine. Moreover, it mandates the establishment of a National Medical Register at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). Penalties for violating these laws start from 10,000 AED and goes up to 1 million AED.
The scope of the law encompasses various healthcare professions, including the practice of non-doctors such as pharmacists, nurses, lab technicians, physiotherapists, anaesthesiologists, radiologists and more. Licensed professionals must possess recognized qualifications, exhibit good conduct and meet a medical fitness criteria.
Additionally, amendments in the law address veterinary facilities, including Emirati veterinarians’ licensing requirements, opportunities for foreign entrepreneurs, and a national register for authorized veterinary practitioners. These measures aim to uphold high healthcare standards and prevent unlicensed practices while fostering foreign investment in the healthcare sector.
