Dubai is without the doubt one of the most dynamic city in the world nowadays. From towering skyscrapers, world-class shopping malls and smooth sand beaches, the unique Burj Khalifa or the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, there is no shortage of things to see and to do in this amazing desert metropolis. However, one of the more unique aspects of Dubai is its “Jaywalking” rules.
So, what exactly is “Jaywalking” and what are Dubai’s “Jaywalking” rules? “Jaywalking” is the act of crossing a roadway from an undesignated area. In Dubai, pedestrians are only allowed to cross the street at designated crosswalks, and even then, they must wait for the signal to turn green light (where there is one) before crossing the road. Jaywalking is punishable by a fine of up to 400 AED (roughly 110 USD).
While these rules may seem strict, they are actually part of a larger effort to promote safety and order on Dubai’s streets. With so many cars and pedestrians sharing the roads, it is important to have clear rules in place to prevent accidents and keep everyone safe.
