The Dubai Courts has established its first inheritance department for non-Muslim residents in the UAE. It provides a comprehensive legislative framework for non-Muslim residents to prepare and administer their wills according to their own, home country laws, hence strengthening the legal certainty for large expat community in the emirates.
The newly opened department specializes in regulating non-Muslim inheritance cases. The applicants are to submit specific documents based on their request, such as legal notices, inventories of inheritance and official documents specifying the heirs and their shares. It also follows a single-session system to reach a decision on the request promptly.
The new law encourages non-Muslims to register their wills and manage their estates in the UAE. In turn, this promotes Dubai as a safe, investment destination with transparent rules welcoming also non-Muslims from all of the world.
